House System

HOUSE SYSTEM

MISB’s house system consists of four groups spread across the school. The four colours, Green, Pink, Red and Yellow are also named after Sat Gurus. The overall aim of the House System is to connect all year groups of EYFS, Primary and Secondary within the school, providing them with the opportunity to further develop skills and experiences in order to become confident and well-rounded individuals. The House system aims to give students an identity and sense of pride in a supportive, secure environment. The Houses provide for positive competition and a closer rapport between students and teachers. The House system is an integral and vibrant part of the school's culture.

It ties in closely with the high performance goals by getting students to work to help each other build confidence through collaboration; persevering through a task; taking risks as a group to achieve a common goal and learning to be enquiring and creative in a safe atmosphere. The House System aims to do this by providing House members with enjoyable and competitive House events; thereby allowing students to succeed both in and outside of the classroom. House events/activities take the form of Intra-Mural Competitions, which are monthly competitions in various disciplines in the school and can be anything from a quiz, elocution, drama, dance, singing etc. which also includes the various sporting competitions held throughout the year.

Captains and Vice-Captains help organize and assist in the events which the students participate in. House points are awarded to a student/s or to the whole house for winning. Every event earns House Points which are collected over the year. At the end of the year the House with the most points is acknowledged and rewarded with a “Champions Trophy”, followed by the first and Second runners up. There is also a separate trophy for both Primary and Secondary Winners of the Intra-Mural Competitions.

Early Years Overview

Early years foundation stage

  • Nursery
  • Reception
  • Year 1

Overview:

Welcome to our Early Years Foundation Stage. The MISB EYFS programme is for children aged between 3-5 years old and is split into three main groups: Nursery, Reception and Year.1. We are based in a separate purpose built building and have dedicated play areas for all Early Years children.
Youngest learners arrive here with different experiences and interests, but common to all is a wonderful curiousity and a natural desire to learn. We believe that overriding purpose of early years education is to help children develop the skills and attitudes they will need both at this level and throughout a lifetime of learning. Children need a holistic educational experience that doesn’t create artificial boundaries between different aspects of their development. Our Early childhood programme is built around this natural predisposition and inspires in each child a deep love for learning. All children in Early Years enter a dynamic and challenging-yet safe and secure-environment created to foster their confidence to explore and learn.

Introduction

MISB Programme of study is based on the National Curriculum of England, offering a quality Education to students from Nursery to Year 13. We provide a rigorous IGCSE Programme (Year 10 and Year 11) and Cambridge-approved Advanced levels available to study in Year 12 and Year 13; thus preparing students towards university education worldwide.

MISB is an established center for Cambridge International Examinations CIE and Edexcel, two of the prominent and Internationally recognized assessment bodies from the United Kingdom, to conduct the IGCSE and A/AS level Examinations.

The school is also registered with the Standards and Testing Agency, an executive agency under the Department of Education, United Kingdom and administers its standards Assessment Tests SATs for Key Stage 1 and 2.

To meet the requirements and Accreditation, MISB has been awarded the International Schools Quality Mark by EDT trust.

Whilst our Curriculum is firmly rooted in the National Curriculum of England, it extends far beyond this and is in no way limited by its statutes. At the heart of our Curriculum is an uncompromising commitment to ensuring every child develops to the highest possible standard in all subject areas.

MISB is fully accredited by the prestigious and Internationally recognized EDT (Education Development Trust) formerly known as CFBT. The National Curriculum sets out the programmes of study and attainment targets for all subjects at all 4 key stages. It covers what subjects are taught and the standards children should reach in each subjects. The National Curriculum is organized into blocks of years called ‘key stages’ (KS). At the end of each term and each key stage, the teacher will formally assess your child’s performance.

Compulsory National Curriculum subjects are as follows:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Art and Design
  • Social Studies  (History and Geography
  • Music
  • Physical education (PE), including swimming
  • Information and Technology (Computer)
  • Foreign languages

Additional National Curriculum subject:

  • personal, social and health education (PSHE)

Our teaching is tailored as much as possible to accommodate individual learning styles and needs and encourages our students to flourish, grow in self-confidence and, above all, fulfill their potential.
