Secondary School

CURRICULUM

Key Stage 3 (Year 7, 8 and 9)
Continuing with the British Curriculum in Key Stage 3, students continue to build upon their skills and knowledge they have acquired during the Key Stage 2. Specialist subject teachers come into play to ensure that the students begin to gain a mastery over the subjects they are learning. Keeping in mind that the curriculum will eventually lead to IGCSE and A Level later, emphasis is laid upon critical thinking, logical analysis, application and approach and problem solving skills for a well rounded preparation. The core subjects remain the same as in Key Stage 2 and are English, Mathematics, Science and ICT. The other subjects that are offered are Social Studies, Art, Music, Foreign Languages (Chinese/Hindi/Punjabi), Thai, PSHE and Sports.

Key Stage 4 (Year 10 and 11)
It is in Key Stage 4 where a student completes the first internationally recognized qualification the ‘International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)’, a very important qualification that points out the direction towards higher studies.  It is a two year syllabus. And the students of Year 11 sit for their exams in the month of May, after rigorous preparations and intensive practice.
IGCSE assessment is conducted by an internationally required United Kingdom assessment body: Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). And Modern International School Bangkok is a well established and a fully fledged centre for CIE.
IGCSE offers a wider range of subjects and encourages high academic standards through a practical approach to teaching and learning. English and Mathematics are compulsory. Assessment is not limited to conventional written papers and they consist of a variety of tests e.g. practicals, oral and listening tests.

Primary School

Curriculum

Based on the British Curriculum, we offer a well balanced syllabus in each of the subjects to allow our students to acquire the skills necessary for a smooth transition to the next Key Stage. The core subjects are English, Mathematics, Science and ICT. While the other subjects taught are History, Geography, Art, Music, Thai, Foreign Languages, PSHE and Sports. Our strong ESL and SEN programmes help to ensure that each child gains complete access to the curriculum that is being offered.
Careful planning of the school year ensures that a child receives abundant opportunities to learn and grow in a complete manner.  The curriculum is enriched by various practical learning experiences in the form of intramural competitions, sports competitions, club activities and field trips.

Assessments

To ensure and monitor the progress of the students MISB has a comprehensive and rigorous mechanism for assessments. Formative Assessments are continuous in nature and consist of class tests, quizzes, assignments, project works, and other tools, such as behaviour, tidiness and punctuality are also considered. On top of this, Summative Assessments are held at the end of each term and are the most traditional and proven methods of assessing a child’s progress. Apart from our internal assessments, students also take the SATs, which are externally set and internally examined papers of the National Curriculum.
